PARTICIPATORY PHOTOGRAPHY COMBINED WITH PSYCHOTHERAPHY
Empowering Voices is an initiative rooted in the belief that creative expression can be a powerful tool for healing, reflection, and social change. Through participatory photography combined with carefully facilitated psychotherapeutic sessions, the project supports individuals and communities facing adversity to reclaim their voice, tell their own stories, and strengthen their sense of belonging.
The programme is led by Miguel Angel Amortegui, a participatory film and photography facilitator with over fifteen years of experience working alongside vulnerable and marginalised communities around the world. His practice brings together visual storytelling, trauma-aware approaches, and long-term community engagement, creating safe and respectful spaces where participants can explore personal narratives while connecting with others.
Empowering Voices offers tailored workshops that merge participatory photography with reflective and psychotherapeutic discussions, creating a unique framework for both personal growth and collective empowerment. Photography becomes more than an image-making exercise; it is used as a tool for dialogue, self-awareness, and emotional processing, allowing participants to reflect on their experiences and articulate them on their own terms.
The programme is designed to work with corporations, NGOs, charities, and other organisations seeking meaningful and socially responsible initiatives. Each collaboration begins with an in-depth consultation to understand the organisation’s values, objectives, and the communities they work with. From there, bespoke programmes are designed to ensure alignment with specific goals, whether focused on social impact, wellbeing, inclusion, or community engagement.
For organisations looking to strengthen their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, Empowering Voices offers an authentic way to support positive change while demonstrating a genuine commitment to social impact. Team-building workshops are also available, using photography and guided reflection to encourage creativity, trust, and stronger connections within teams. For NGOs, the programme provides sensitive and experience-led collaboration, ensuring that projects are delivered with care, respect, and cultural awareness.
Workshops are facilitated by experienced practitioners who guide participants through each stage of the process, from image-making to group discussion and reflection. Each project concludes with a thoughtful impact assessment, offering organisations clear insights into outcomes and learning, supported by qualitative reflections and visual material.
Empowering Voices is an invitation to rethink how stories are told, who tells them, and how creative practice can support both individual healing and collective understanding.
